Growing up, I'd always wanted to travel but the barriers had always seemed too big. Ironically, since using a wheelchair I was seeing obstacles that could be overcome.

I'd say that this was my first real adventure travel. Something off the beaten path. I signed up for a cultural exchange programme with VSO. The idea was that you spent 3 months in a country that you hadn't been before then returned with participants from that country and spent another 3 months in the UK.

The first leg of our trip starting in January 2010 was a small village, just outside of Rangpur, in northern Bangladesh. We then returned and spent 3 months in Edinburgh.

Such an amazing experience and definitely stoked my confidence in travelling.

Another throwback to some more travelling and this time it's a road trip across Europe in December 2009. Not a well thought through plan, but this is what happens when you meet someone with the same 'why not' attitude you have.

After sailing across to France, we drove through Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Czech, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, turned away at the Bosnian border, got a bus into Bosnia, Italy, France and home. Map of the route is the last pic.

Such a fun road trip, even with the cold weather and nights sleeping in the car!

When I told my dad that I didn't have a lot of content to post on social media ahead of my trip to Australia and New Zealand next year, he replied with "What you should do is...". By that point I was prepared to zone out as he doesn't have any social media accounts. I'm pleased I kept listening though.

His suggestion was to post some of trips I've been on previously. Fair play. It's a great idea. Thanks dad 🙌

This is my first trip post injury in 2008 when I went to work in the USA for 4 months. This was a big trip, not only as I was less that 2 years post injury when I got on the plane, but I'd spent the year before my injury working in the USA as well. So this trip was to show myself that I could still do the things that I wanted to!

Took the opportunity when going up to Bradford for work to meet up with @sumantabot and take a little excursion to the Peak District.

Shot here is from Baslow Edge. Advertised as wheelchair accessible, but would have been a full afternoon trip without my @triride.uk scooter attachment.

Disappointed that it was too windy to take the drone up. Maybe next time. Still worth it for the view!

Finding new ways to teach wheelchair skills in ord

Finding new ways to teach wheelchair skills in order to reach more people is always at the back of my mind. So when the opportunity to support an innovative UCL project came up, I didn't hesitate to get involved.

In the video you can see me practising wheelchair skills with movement sensors attached to my body and wheelchair. Sensors around the lab then translated that movement into a visual representation on screen. By recording this, we were able to map out the body's movement when practising various skills.

Creating a virtual exoskeleton that can support teaching wheelchair skills opens up more possibilities to reach people who don't currently have access to these skills.

For those who know me, you'll know how much travel

For those who know me, you'll know how much travel and adventure has been a big part of my life over the years. I've been lucky enough to do some pretty crazy trips, all with the additional challenge of doing them as a wheelchair user.

All of my travels and actually a lot of my every day life getting around for work or play is only possible because I have the confidence and the skills in using my wheelchair - skills that the majority of wheelchair users don't have access to.

Last year, I set up a not for profit Community Interest Company, The Wheelchair Skills College, with the vision of ensuring every wheelchair user gets access to wheelchair skills training. Sharing the skills that have made such a massive difference to my life. I'm excited about what the next year has in store!

Great feeling to compete in the British Waterski C

Great feeling to compete in the British Waterski Championships in the first year they have hosted an adaptive category. Took third place in the men's slalom competition, still room for improvement ahead of next year's event.

Massive shout out to the @ciaofoundation for their support in getting my waterski frame which has improved my skiing so much. If you need any adaptive equipment, check out their page!

Taking a very much needed break after a busy summer in work. I decided to get out of the city and take a road trip to the west coast of Wales which luckily was unaffected by lockdowns. Great fun driving on the country lanes in my rental Mercedes and some stunning views along the way.
